Youngest Member of U.S. Army

Youngest Member of U.S. Army

A young boy named Brennan Daigle had a very unusual request after doctors gave him weeks to live. He suffers from a form of cancer called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in which muscular tumors attached themselves to the bones. Having always had a strong love for the army and a local Louisiana charity for sick kids took notice. Charity worker Becky Prejean contacted a nearby army base in hopes of fulfilling his birthday wish to meet soldiers of the U.S. Army. Once hearing of Brennan’s story forty soldiers surprised Brennan at his birthday party. Having soldiers sing happy birthday was just the start of the day for this patriotic cancer patient. They then gave him a ride in the humvees and made Brennan an honorary member of the United States Army, along with the key to the city and the role of mayor for the day. This royal treatment was the perfect day Brennan had dreamed of. One soldier told Brennan he “exemplifies what personal courage means”. Many different request have been met over the years by charities trying to ease the pain of terminally ill children, however this one stands out with his overwhelming patriotism and love of the U.S. Army.
